Mumbai police have arrested Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty's husband and well-known businessman Raj Kundra on charges of making pornographic films and broadcasting them on mobile apps. Police say he is the main culprit in the porn film case and police have solid evidence against him.
Raj Kundra was summoned for questioning at the Mumbai Police Crime Branch yesterday. After several hours of questioning, he was arrested. The matter is still under investigation.
So far no statement has been issued by Raj Kundra's family or Shilpa Shetty. Kandra was scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.
Mumbai police arrested five people, including two film actresses, in February on charges of forcing girls to make pornographic films, following complaints from some of the girls who struggled to act in the film.
According to police, "these people promised to give roles in web series to these girls who wanted to act in movies and when they went to shoot on a certain day, their script would be changed and they would be forced to shoot porn movies." ۔ If they refused, they were threatened and asked to pay the full bill for the shooting. The films were shot in rented bungalows in the Midlands and elsewhere on the outskirts of Mumbai.
Police say several mobile apps were created for the pornographic films on which the films were broadcast. Users could watch these movies on these apps for a monthly fee. Many of these apps had millions of users.
These porn movie apps became very popular in the lockdown during Corona's epidemic. Police were investigating the matter from two angles. One is who is making these pornographic films and the other is the people who were broadcasting it on mobile apps in the style of the OTT platform. Police say Kundra belongs to a company that broadcasts these films.
Raj Kundra is doing business in many sectors like property, mining, sports, stock market, and hotel. He has also invested in filmmaking and sports in Bollywood. He was also a shareholder in the IPL team Rajasthan Royals.
Raj Kundra was also accused of match-fixing in the 2012 IPL. Police had arrested several cricketers besides Kundra at the time in connection with the spot-fixing case.
Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals were banned for two years and Kundra was banned for life along with some others based on the recommendations of a committee set up on the direction of the Supreme Court.
